Television Policy

Little Explorers limit the time children within our care are permitted to watch television.

The watching of television programs, DVDs and videos is normally restricted to:

  • A short session after lunch and tea to provide the children with a quiet time to rest and allow their food to go down
  • If a child is feeling a little off colour and needing more rest then it may be appropriate for them to watch more television that day
  • Special occasions.

We ensure that any programs watched are suitable for all the children in our care. If your child wants to bring a DVD to watch at Little Explorers, please check with us first - as it must be appropriate viewing for the younger children.

Recent research has shown that excessive watching of TV can actually cause problems for some children. It can affect their social and communication skills, as there is no interaction. Television is very fast and children get used to this pace of entertainment, this can them result in them becoming bored and frustrated at the slower pace of school teaching.
